AvantiCare has a team of experienced occupational therapists who can provide services within Our Hub, residential facilities or within home care.

Our approach to therapy focuses on each individual’s needs, tailoring the therapy to best suit each person, their daily lifestyle, and their personal goals. Occupational therapy within the aged community helps with overall mobility and aims to prevent future injuries.

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapists’ focus on promoting health and wellbeing by enabling people to participate in the everyday occupations of life, such as self-care activities including showering, dressing, preparing food; productive activities such as education, work, volunteering and caring for others; and leisure/social activities, such as being part of a community group, engaging in a hobby, and being part of a friendship group.

Occupational therapists can assist with the following:

  • Skill development or adapted techniques, including one-handed methods and the application of ergonomic principles and energy conservation/work simplification strategies.
  • Environmental modifications including assessment for rails, ramps, steps and bathroom alterations
  • Assessment for adaptive equipment.
  • Community mobility, including accessing taxi subsidies, training in use of public transport or assessment for powered mobility aids.
  • Cognitive rehabilitation following Acquired Brain Injury or progressive neurological conditions with therapy to promote sensory, perceptual, and cognitive processing.
  • Exercise programs to promote upper limb function including building strength and maximising range of movement.
  • Wheelchair prescription, seating and pressure area care.
  • Falls prevention

Who do Occupational Therapists work with?

Occupational therapists’ work with individuals at all life stages. At AvantiCare we specialise in supporting individuals in their later years to stay living safely and independently in the environment they choose, both within the community, independent living units/retirement living and in residential aged care facilities.

Frequently asked questions

Occupational therapists use a holistic perspective to achieve optimal health and wellbeing through participation in activities of daily living including; Self care activities (such as showering, dressing etc), Household and community functioning (home maintenance, budgeting, driving, community access), Education, Leisure and play (hobbies and interests for relaxation), Social participation and productivity which may include paid or unpaid work. Occupational therapists employ education, manual, physical and cognitive therapy techniques and are also able to assess and recommend assistive technology and/or environmental modifications to assist you to engage in these occupations.

At AvantiCare we understand that the rapport between the client and the therapist is built on respect overtime and we endeavour to maintain consistency when organising appointments to support this. When your regular therapist is unavailable for any reason you will be notified of any changes prior to your appointment.

Family members are welcome to enquire for services on your behalf, and we are happy to discuss the options for therapy available, general information and arrange a time for an appointment that suits you.
