What is Speech Pathology?

A speech pathologist is trained in the assessment and management of communication, feeding and swallowing disorders.

  • Palliative Care – end of life pathways related to dysphagia
  • Annual reviews – It is highly recommended all residents with an identified symptom or diagnosis of dysphagia, be assessed by the Speech Pathologist as least annually, or sooner if difficulties arise. This is best practice and satisfies obligations for meeting Accreditation Standards. Specialty training services for management of dysphagia and the implementation of the new IDDSI guidelines for texture modified food and thickened fluids.
