Frequently asked questions

Remedial massage is a type of hands-on treatment that can help treat soft tissues, alleviate pain and restore their function. Physiotherapy incorporates assessment, diagnosis and treatment of health conditions.  For some conditions massage is used as part of our treatment, however, our AvantiCare physiotherapist also incorporates other techniques such as joint mobilisation, manipulation, traction, dry needling, exercise and education. In our experience, a holistic combination of treatment techniques gives a better result than massage alone.

At AvantiCare we understand that the rapport between the client and the therapist is built on respect over time and we endeavour to maintain consistency when organising appointments to support this. When your regular therapist is unavailable for any reason you will be notified of any changes prior to your appointment.

Your initial appointment with our physiotherapists will involve an in depth discussion regarding your concerns, condition, symptoms and general health, lifestyle, activities and goals for therapy. A comprehensive physical assessment is then undertaken to develop a baseline, which may include review of particular joints or body areas for pain or dysfunction, gait, balance, endurance or movement analysis, or specific assessments for a variety of concerns or conditions. From these assessments and working in collaboration with you, our client, a holistic treatment plan is developed which is best suited to achieve your goals and support purpose.

Generally any of your normal garments and clothing that are easy to move in and you are comfortable with is ideal for assessment and treatment sessions. This includes comfortable footwear, and any assistive orthosis or garments you use regularly. Occasionally particularly if treating specific body areas, the therapist may need to disrobe the area to visualize the anatomy and better assess movement or to enact treatment. If this is the case our therapists are trained in privacy draping for your comfort and modesty. If you wish to know more please contact our friendly administrative team prior to your session.

If you have concerns regarding pain, stiffness, reduced ability to move or engage in the activities you enjoy, are recovering from an injury or illness, are experiencing reduced endurance or breathlessness, have concerns for safety regarding falls or balance, want to address a specific health or movement concern or simply want to improve your general health and wellbeing, then a physiotherapist can help. If you are unsure if a physiotherapist is right for your specific concern then please contact our friendly admin team who will happily assist you.
